The Sawtooth Fire is burning in a remote location deep in a drainage, no trail or road access. There is a very low risk of impact to structures, private property, or recreation infrastructure. Officials continue to confine/contain and monitor the fire.

For the safety of our aerial resources and firefighters on the ground, please do not fly unmanned aircraft (drones) in the fire vicinity. If you fly, we can't.

Widespread haze. Mostly sunny, with a high near 85. Calm wind becoming west around 6 mph in the afternoon.

Significant Events

The fire has been active within the perimeter. The fire crossed the small unnamed tributary on the east side of the fire and remained south of Sawtooth Creek. The fire will continue growth on all sides until the it reaches natural barriers in Sawtooth Creek or precipitation moderates fire activity. The St. Joe WFM crew assigned to the incident is assessing structures, infrastructure, and a historical cabin site for protection actions in the fire area.

Fire behavior is flanking, backing and torching.

Planned Outlook

Remarks
The Idaho Panhandle National Forests issued an emergency closure (Closure Order # 01-04-04-23-002) effective July 28, 2023. The purpose of this Order is for public and firefighter safety due to fire activity in and around Sawtooth Creek. This order prohibits all methods of travel (foot, motorized and stock) in the following areas:
FSR Trail 12 from the junction of Trail 108 to the junction of Trail 113. Trail 40 from the junction of Trail 50 and the junction of Trail 141. Trail 50 from the junction of Trail 40 and junction of Trail 108. Trail 108 from the junction of Trail 50 to the junction of Trail 12. Trail 111 from the junction of Trail 109 and 113 to the junction of Trail 141. Trail 113 from the junction of Trail 12 to the junction of Trail 111. Trail 141 in its entirety.
