Texas A&M Forest Service received a request for assistance for a fire approximately 2.5 miles west of the Texas/Louisiana state borders on FM 31 South, in Panola County, Texas on August 20, at 3:45 pm. 

Local firefighters have been by personnel, heavy equipment, and aviation resources from Texas A&M Forest Service. The fire is displaying very active behavior with crown run and spotting in pine timber. Multiple structures have been evacuated and are currently receiving structure protection from local fire engines. Heavy equipment is currently working on the priority southern edge of the fire, trying to decrease forward spread.

The area has been, and will continue to experience excessive heat today, and is receiving winds from the west at 5-13 mph with an expected shift to southeastern winds at 5 mph after 3 am.
