Incident Overview

The American Mesa Fire is a lightning-caused wildfire on the Jicarilla Ranger District. It is estimated to be 200 acres with rapid growth in piñon-juniper habitat. Current weather is hot, dry and windy. The fire is threatening oil and gas infrastructure and is about four miles west of the structures on the Jicarilla Apache Nation. Fire personnel are taking suppression actions.
