Two fires, Deep 1 and Deep 2, burned together and were renamed the Deep Fire, located west of Trinity Lake in the Stuart Fork drainage. The fire was discovered August 15th at 0700. 10 Smoke Jumpers were deployed soon after fire was discovered along with 2 crews to contain the fire.
The Deep Fire exhibited active fire behavior August 16th in the afternoon and evening as it was impacted by thunderstorm downdrafts that created erratic winds and caused significant fire growth. Today the Deep fire is estimated at about 1,500 acres. Roughly 120 fire personnel are working to manage the Deep Fire.
Overnight cooling conditions and light rains in the morning increased overnight humidity aiding with firefighting efforts. The chance of thunderstorms remains today and may bring gusty and erratic winds near thunderstorm areas. Winds today are expected to come from the northeast in the morning and shift from the northwest in the afternoon.
