The Oregon Fire is located approximately 4 miles northeast of Elk, WA. This fire was reported at approximately 1600hrs on Friday, August 18, 2023 and has burned approximately 9,278 acres of forest and cropland. 

A large area east and southeast of Elk is under a Level 3 Evacuation. Further evacuation maps and information are located at www.facebook.com/GEGEmergencyMgt 

If homeowners feel threatened by fire they should evacuate immediately, there may be no formal notice that you need to evacuate. As weather changes, fire behavior will rapidly change.

The evacuation center is located at Riverside High School 4120 E. Deer Park Milan Rd, Chattaroy, WA 99003.

Fuels include timber, tall grass and brush.

Saturday: Firefighting resources arrived throughout the day on Saturday 19AUG2023, and were engaged in structure protection and containment line construction. Fire fighters engaged in structure protection and conducted activities including removing flammable vegetation/materials near structures and constructing/securing containment line around structures.

Fire fighters continue using dozers to construct containment line and made good progress on the north and west side of the fire. Containment line construction has started on the east side of the fire. Active fire was experienced throughout the day, fire spread primarily on the east and south sides of the fire.

Due to smoke limiting visibility, air resources were not able to fly on the fire.

Overnight, firefighters focused on structure protection. Fire activity has been active in the Deer Creek area.

Sunday: Fire fighters continued to focus on protecting structures and securing existing containment lines. Bulldozers and hand crews continued constructing containment lines along the east and south sides of the fire. Active fire behavior was witnessed throughout the day.
