The Tinker Bugs Timber Sale Project encompasses a total of 7,636 acres in the Big Smith Creek, Middle Fork Clearwater River sub-watersheds that drain into the Middle Fork Clearwater River. Approximately 85 acres of logging slash burning will take place as early as tomorrow, April 23.The overall purpose of the project is to restore vegetation species composition, structure, and distributions to early seral species (Ponderosa pine, western larch, and white pine); reduce ladder fuels created by shade-tolerant species and create more natural patch sizes by emulating mix-severity fire; improve big game habitat for winter range; and utilize timber outputs produced through forest management activities to support the economic structure of local communities, and provide for regional needs.Burning should cover the majority of the unit to provide adequate spacing for seedling establishment.
